FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 12, 2024
Tulsa, OK - “Today marks a milestone in the investigation into the allegations at the Family Center for Juvenile Justice, as the police arrived to deliver search warrants to collect additional information at the facility.
Since May, when the federal lawsuit was filed on behalf of several youths who had been repeatedly victimized inside FCJJ, I have called for transparent actions to hold those responsible accountable for both the crimes against vulnerable children and the failure of others to protect those same victims. As a father, I am devastated and deeply concerned about how the children in Tulsa County’s custody have been treated and continue to be treated. I stand with advocates who are calling for a thorough third-party investigation and the shutting down of the facility.
Finally, this horrific situation has deepened my fundamental belief that the city of Tulsa needs a leader who is willing to take a stand on issues, implement solutions with full transparency, and hold themselves accountable for results. I firmly believe that a crucial part of changing outcomes for children is rooted in creating the Office of Children, Youth, and Families, tasked every day with helping families navigate their child’s specific needs. I am committed to this now more than ever as we seek justice and look toward healing the deep scars left by this awful situation.”
