Nichols Supports Vote to Make Johnson Superintendent

“Appointing Dr. Johnson as the next superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools is the right choice for advancing the interests of TPS students and the entire community.”

TULSA, OK – Rep. Monroe Nichols (D-Tulsa), candidate for Tulsa Mayor, released a statement today reaffirming his support for Tulsa Public Schools Interim Superintendent Ebony Johnson to be named as the next TPS superintendent.

Over the past few months, Tulsa Public Schools and its community have endured significant challenges, primarily due to the disruptive and unprepared leadership of the state superintendent,” Nichols said. “Ryan Walters’ actions have not only undermined local governance but also threatened student safety and the stability of Tulsa's public education system.

“Amidst this turmoil, Dr. Ebony Johnson has stood out as a beacon of stability and competence. Her dedication has greatly benefited teachers, parents, staff, and, most importantly, students. Given her exemplary leadership, it's clear that appointing Dr. Johnson as the next superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools is the right choice for advancing the interests of TPS students and the entire community.

Tulsa School Board President Stacey Woolley echoed Nichols’ support for Dr. Johnson.

“Rep. Monroe Nichols is a champion for our community and has been instrumental in defending and supporting Tulsa Public Schools and the students we serve,” said Woolley. “I’m proud to work with him as a relentless ally in our continued effort against state overreach and in advocating to make Dr. Johnson the permanent superintendent of Tulsa Public Schools.”
